Saint Joseph Catholic Homeschool Group was founded in the 1990s,
as a subgroup of Saint Thomas More Home Educators, by Mary Lowry
at the suggestion of Julia Fogassy. Mary Lowry and Diane S. decided
to have activities take place in the basement of St. Joseph's Catholic
Church in Tacoma. This decision gave the members a patron saint,
a place to meet, and a name for the group. We no longer meet
at St. Joseph's, but we continue to look to St. Joseph as our patron.
Today, there are approximately 50 families who belong to Saint Joseph
Catholic Homeschool Group. Most of the families live in Pierce or
South King County. The families belong to various Catholic parishes
in the Archdiocese of Seattle. We are faithful to the Magisterium
of the Catholic Church.
The purpose of Saint Joseph Catholic Homeschool Group is to provide
support and education for Catholic homeschooling families through
a variety of activities, such as potlucks, children's clubs, couples'
night out, mothers' teas, and field trips.
As the principal and first educators of our children, may we always
remember that our primary responsibility in home education is raising
saints for Heaven.
